In these operations, perpetrators use a short clip of a relative's voice (often harvested from social media) to generate realistic audio messages claiming the relative is in distress and requires immediate wire transfers or cryptocurrency deposits.
Key Protective Guidelines:
1. Establish a Family Password: Choose a secret word or phrase known only to your family members to verify identities during suspicious distress calls.
2. Verify Independently: Hang up and contact the family member directly via their known phone number or social media profiles.
3. Report Immediately: If you are a victim of a voice clone scam, register your case on the FBI Recovery portal immediately to initiate tracing.
